I am a fourth generation New Mexican and grew up in Albuquerque, where I graduated from Eldorado High School. I attended the University of Kansas where I studied history and played baseball. After KU, I spent two summers playing and coaching baseball in Sweden and then spent several more years working as an International Envoy Coach for Major League Baseball in South Africa, Germany, Indonesia, Singapore and China. These were life-changing experiences, to say the least.
I came home to New Mexico and attended the University of New Mexico School of Law. My practice focuses on civil litigation with an emphasis in wrongful death, medical negligence and personal injury litigation. Since graduating from law school, my practice has been focused on personal injury litigation. After law school, I was fortunate to work for 3 years at Shapiro, Bettinger, and Chase, where I had amazing trial lawyers as mentors, a couple of whom were MD-JDs. These mentors gave me a solid foundation medicine, litigation, and client advocacy. In 2017, I decide to open my own firm.I have also developed a niche interest in cases involving eye injuries caused by optometrists or ophthalmologists.
For years I was in solo practice and swore that is how it would always be. Then I met Lauren. She and I complement each other well and each approach problems in very different ways. We do not take on many cases, which allows us both to be heavily involved in all of our cases. We are constantly challenging each other’s thought process, which improves the ultimate work product for our clients. I am proud to consider Lauren a dear friend and colleague.
In 2020, I suffered a life-threatening health scare. After months of tests, doctors found a non-cancerous tumor in my spine that was compressing my spinal cord. It was terrifying. I went to Phoenix for two days of surgery and was saved by a fabulous team of doctors and nurses, who will forever be my heroes. They removed the tumor and saved not only my life but my ability to walk and lead a productive life. Years later, I still have follow up appointments and scans and am constantly battling the physical and emotional toll of it all. While challenging, these experiences have made me a better lawyer. I connect more deeply with clients and empathize with what almost all have gone through: the shock of the news; the immediacy of the crisis; the uncertainty of the tests; the worry about what happens next; and the swirling questions of how and why this all happened—all while navigating the horrible bureaucracy of insurance claims and waiting on hold, only to be transferred to a different department. I get it and enjoy helping clients through these difficult times.
My wife and I have two young kids and we enjoy being outside and exploring New Mexico. We coach our kids’ sports teams and, in what spare time I have, I love to exercise and play guitar.
